After Raya Leave

It’s the first day back at the office after the Raya leave. The vibe feels the same, though I notice it more today. I’m not busy, not exactly. There is work, but it sits a short distance away.

I feel sleepy. I’m fasting today, making up the six days in Syawal. The hours move a little slower.

Around me, the office is full. People seem to be working on things I can’t see. Their screens are open. Their hands move steadily. I wonder what they are working on.

During Ramadan, and then Raya, I ate more than usual. Everything tasted good. I didn’t stop myself. This morning, I saw the number. 59.9. Not 60. Still, close enough to pause on.

I signed up again for the online fitness class. It includes strength training, diet, step challenges, and small group reflections. All women. This is not my first time joining. I return to it when I need a little more structure. A little more discipline.

Lately, I’ve been quieter at work. Less friendly, maybe. I keep to myself. I tell myself it’s to protect my energy in an environment that keeps changing.

The office continues as it always does. Emails arrive. Conversations begin and end. People move across the floor once in a while.
