What Happened to My Poetry Book?

Six months ago, I shared my ambition of compiling a poetry book. At that time, I had about 40 poems. Today, that number has grown to around 400. Yet, the book remains unfinished.

One of the most positive outcomes of this journey is the sheer volume of poetry I have created. From a modest collection of 40 poems, I now have a substantial 400. This tenfold increase is a testament to my dedication and creative output.

The Challenge of Compilation

Despite this growth, the compilation of my poetry book remains incomplete. This begs the question: why is it taking so long to accomplish something seemingly simple like ‘compiling’? I have come to realise that being a good thinker does not necessarily equate to being productive. Many of my ideas and creative thoughts remain unexecuted, trapped in the realm of imagination. This is a common trait among idealists, who often wait for the perfect moment to begin.

Confronting the Idealist’s Dilemma

In my previous posts, I outlined three goals: completing my poetry book, maintaining my blog, and starting a vlog. Unfortunately, these aspirations remain in the conceptual stage, floating in a cloud of dreams and fantasies. It’s time to bring them into reality.

The Power of Daily Challenges

Through self-reflection, I have discovered that I thrive on daily challenges. Committing to a task for one to two months helps me achieve my goals. I recall my daily Instagram #VCSO postings of portrait photography, consistent blog updates, engaging Facebook statuses, #sixwordstory entries, daily poems, daily tweets, and even ephemeral Instastories. While I have succeeded in these challenges individually, I have yet to find a way to integrate them seamlessly.

Planning for Consistency

To achieve my goals, I need to plan better and find a way to maintain consistency across all my creative outlets. Writing this blog post is part of a new challenge I set for myself: to write 100 words every day on this blog. As I write this, I have already exceeded my goal for today, reaching 252 words.

Small Steps Lead to Big Achievements

The key to success lies in starting small and being consistent. By setting manageable daily goals and gradually increasing my efforts, I believe I can finally compile my poetry book, maintain my blog, and start my vlog. It’s all about finding the right balance and staying committed to the process.

While the journey to compiling my poetry book has been longer than anticipated, the growth and lessons learned along the way have been invaluable. I am more determined than ever to bring my creative projects to fruition, one small step at a time.

Signing off now, with renewed motivation and a clear plan in mind.
