Tales from a Young Mind

I took a pen and a notebook with me to the swimming pool and, while waiting for A, I planned to write. That was until H took over my well-prepared tools. Her drawing was good – comic-like, and there were three sections of a similar storyline.

The Princess and Her Unicorn

The first story is about a princess and her unicorn. The dialogue went as follows:

Princess: I love you (symbolised by the shape of a heart, as she explained to me). She drew that herself.

Unicorn: I love (again, a heart shape) you too. For this line, she asked for my help.

Elly and Baby Elly

The second story featured Elly and Baby Elly:

Elly: ? (according to H, this means “I don’t know”)

Baby Elly: o (this translates to “Owhh” in a specific slang, as if it means, “Oh, you really don’t know.. hmm”)

Umi and Hannah

The third story followed a similar pattern:

Umi: ?

Hannah: o

I guess it carried a similar meaning to the second story.

I helped her to label the characters: Princess, Unicorn, Elly, Baby Elly, and Umi. She wrote her own name, all in capital letters.

Recently, I listened to classes on Skillshare and Masterclass about short stories. After consuming lectures from about three to four authors, the only story I came up with was this – a tale about my daughter effortlessly creating three stories while waiting for her brother to finish swimming.
