Move Right

Another goal that I’m trying to achieve this year is to exercise once a week. I’ve learnt that goals are better set as habits, i.e. instead of aiming to be a better writer, my goal is to write daily. Instead of trying to get to specific bodyweight, my goal is to exercise weekly.

It’s too early to say whether I will accomplish these goals, but so far, I’m grateful that I have not missed a week since the first week of January 2020.

The type of exercises varies – swimming, jogging, running on the treadmill at the gym, dancing at home, and going to Zumba with my colleagues. When I’m swamped for any of those, I will do 10-15 minutes yoga.

In February, I managed to go to Zumba every week. They were super fun, sweat-ful, and I learn a few things about myself.

  1. I really love dancing, and who doesn’t.
  2. I become self-aware of my mental blocks around dancing, i.e. the arms and legs coordination as well as the left and right confusion.
  3. I’m more comfortable with masculine moves than the feminine ones, i.e. steps influenced by belly dance and salsa. Maybe I’m shy, or perhaps they are just hard.
