No matter how many storage or organisation units you have, your things are still overflowing from their ‘houses’ and you can’t seem to get them in order.
Here are 3 simple steps to declutter your stuff and organise any storage unit in your home.
Take out all the items from the storage unit. Put them on the floor or a clean table.
Categorise the items. For example, if you’re dealing with your wardrobe, the categories would be pants, tops, undergarments etc.
Go through each category one by one, and make three groups/piles:-
- Throw/donate/sell – items that are broken, damaged, no longer used, and you have no intention to use them soon. For the broken and damaged – you can straight away dump them into the bin or if possible, you can recycle or upcycle them. For the items that are still in good condition – you can choose to donate or sell. At the end of the day, this group is to be put out from your house.
- Not sure – items that you are no longer using, but you think you might want to use them in the near future. Keep them in one box and label the date of today. Give a time frame. It could be 3 to 6 months. If you still aren’t using them after the time frame, they can be transferred to Group 1.
- Keep – Organise these items back into your storage unit, preferably based on their categories.
That’s all. I hope you will have your stuff well organised with all the things you really use and love!
