Audio Content for Everyday Joy

Sending my son to school every day takes at least 30 minutes. Sometimes, it annoys me to waste 30 minutes of my precious morning stuck in traffic, as the distance is actually not far if measured with a ruler.

Turning Commutes into Quality Time

I try to make it my me-time or mother-son bonding time, depending on whether A wants to sleep or stay awake during the journey. Most of the time, he is in dreamland before I even start the car. For that, I’m super grateful for the abundance of audio content available nowadays. In fact, audio content is what makes my chores at home enjoyable, even during tedious and excruciating tasks like washing the dishes, folding the laundry, and sweeping the floor.

The Lifesaver of Podcasts

Now that I no longer pick seismic lines, I remember how listening to podcasts saved me from dread. They provided a mental escape and a way to make mundane tasks bearable. However, sometimes I do hate myself for needing constant distraction. Do I have to consume something all the time?

Finding Joy in the Routine

It’s a matter of how you define this. Consuming content while doing routine stuff could be mere multitasking. If I am just performing my responsibilities without inserting things I enjoy in between, I could burn out. Being present in the moment is hard, and sometimes, audio content helps bridge that gap.

Instead of viewing my need for distraction negatively, I’ve learned to see it as a way to find joy in the routine. Listening to something engaging while I work or commute transforms these moments into opportunities for personal growth and relaxation. It’s about balancing consumption with presence, finding harmony between enjoying content and appreciating the task at hand.
