A Slow Start

At my previous workplace, Thursdays were synonymous with progress updates. The team leader would prepare for Friday presentations, after which the boss would present to the higher-ups on Monday, perpetuating a cycle of relentless updates.

A New, Slower Pace

Now, into my third week of resting at home, my routine has slowed considerably. Days blur together with twice-daily showers, meals of instant or fast food, and copious amounts of coffee to counteract the lethargy brought on by Netflix binges. (Pro tip: If anyone tries to lure you into the Netflix vortex, run for the hills!)

In a moment of leniency, I allowed H to skip school for a couple of days during the first week. We indulged in domestic idleness, dabbled in art, and played house. The subsequent week, truncated by the General Election, offered only two working/school days. So, my first two weeks? Not exactly a pinnacle of productivity.

Minimalism Game: A Third Attempt

I’ve attempted the 30-day Minimalism Game (#minsgame) before, albeit unsuccessfully. This marks my third attempt, and fingers crossed, I’ll see it through to the end. Progress feels gratifying; not only have I stuck to the challenge, but I’ve also tackled some stubborn clutter in the house and finally brought order to the chaos that was my bookshelves. My aim? To reclaim my third room from the clutches of miscellaneous items and transform it into either a new workspace or perhaps, dare I dream, a minimalist sanctuary for solitary slumber. As for A and H’s opinions on the matter? Let’s just say I’m exercising my autonomy as an adult.

Blogging and Social Media

I managed to write two blog posts, though not quite hitting my target of three per week. This week, I’ll strive for better. Meanwhile, social media addiction persists. With blogging taking a backseat, I’ve leaned on Twitter for daily updates and shared bite-sized musings on my Facebook page to keep the writing muscle flexed. There have even been accidental forays into poetic expression on Twitter, later immortalised on Instagram. The truth? My social media dalliances have eaten up a considerable chunk of my time, hence the lag here.

Currently, I’m immersed in the Create If Writing podcast on Spotify and thoroughly enjoying the experience. For those interested in the intricacies of online promotion and platform-building for writers, bloggers, and creatives, this podcast is a goldmine.

The past fortnight included celebrating A’s and my mum’s birthdays, along with Mother’s Day, ahead of the voting day while we were all under one roof. I also teamed up with university friends for the Quiz of Majlis Tilawah Al-Quran (Petronas Kuala Lumpur level), landing a respectable 5th place out of 10 teams. Furthermore, I attended a business talk by my friend Dyra Razali, and roped in my friend Halifah Masturah to join me. Dyra’s insights left us inspired and informed.

And thus concludes the snapshot of my first two weeks. Documenting and sharing my progress on this new journey helps me stay grounded and reflective. Feel free to drop a comment if you’d like more posts like this in the future.

Wishing myself and everyone a (more) productive week ahead. Toodles!
