Balancing the demands of work, personal commitments, and motherhood is a feat many women face daily. As a 31-year-old single mother working in corporate communications, I strive to write 300 words each day for myself. However, this goal is becoming increasingly unrealistic as my days grow busier. Here’s a glimpse into my hectic schedule.
Office Responsibilities
The office environment has become more demanding, and I often find myself so engrossed in work that I forget to have lunch. Time flies, and before I know it, it’s time to head home and pick up my kids. I sometimes wonder where the hours go and if I’m simply not efficient enough. The workload is overwhelming, and I constantly feel like I’m playing catch-up. Despite this, I can’t help but think that I am partly responsible for this situation.
Extra-Curricular Commitments
After office hours, I engage in several extra-curricular activities. I attend halaqah sessions and serve as a facilitator for a weekly program at a high school. These activities are not obligations but passions that bring me immense joy. I love inspiring the younger generation and feel fulfilled by these engagements.
Family Time
At home, my children need my attention. A, my elder child, often has homework that requires assistance. H, my younger one, loves playing with watercolours and makeup almost daily. Ensuring they are well-fed is a basic yet challenging task. Meal preparation feels like a daily struggle, but it is essential for their well-being.
The Gratitude Amidst Chaos
Although my schedule is packed, I am not complaining. I am grateful for the opportunity to write 300 words today, capturing a snapshot of my weekday life. Documenting these moments helps me reflect on my journey and appreciate the balance I strive to maintain.
Reflection and Realisation
Being a single mother is undoubtedly challenging, but it is also incredibly rewarding. Every day is a testament to my resilience and dedication to my children and my personal growth. Writing, even if it’s just 300 words, provides a sense of accomplishment and a moment of calm amidst the chaos.
