It’s my third attempt at tackling the minimalism game. My last effort saw me reaching the 8th day.
I have no more excuses. My six-month sabbatical started yesterday.
Here I am, a stay-at-home mother with seemingly 10 times more time than my previous working self, who had to shower early in the morning, get my babies ready (read: fight a war), send them to school, curse 45 minutes of traffic, then take the train to a job I didn’t particularly enjoy (I didn’t say hate), buy overpriced meals that tasted average, wait 8 hours to go home, only to leave early to pick up my kids before their playschools’ overtime charges kicked in. Phew.
A’ishah, that’s a long-winded way to say, no more excuses – the time you always wanted is here.
And dear, stop being dramatic because anyway, you don’t need a sabbatical to play just. a. game!
Even the busiest Prime Minister could manage this.
What is the 30-Day Minimalism Game?
First introduced by The Minimalists, the 30-Day Minimalism Game helps people declutter their belongings in a fun and engaging way. It is designed to be played with family and friends who are also keen on shedding their excess stuff. Essentially, it’s a challenge – the person who can last the longest and complete the month wins.
I’m not sure if any of my family members, friends, or acquaintances are interested in this. So, I’m doing it alone and inviting you, my readers, to join me.
Leave your Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or blog link in the comment section below (whichever platform you choose to share your journey on) so I can follow you. It would be more enjoyable doing this together.
Use the #minsgame hashtag in your posts. If you’re lucky, you’ll be noticed by the large global minimalism community. It’s almost like a cult on the internet, if you didn’t already know.
How to Play the #MinsGame?
This month, each of you must get rid of one thing on the first day. On the second day, two things. Three items on the third day. And so forth. Anything can go – clothes, furniture, electronics, tools, decorations, etc. Donate, sell, or trash them. Whatever you do, each material possession must be out of your house – and out of your life – by midnight each day. (See The Minimalists’ guide: Let’s Play a Minimalism Game)
I know, I’m a bit late to start. It’s already the 3rd of May as I write this. So today, I’ll try to find 1+2+3=6 items to get rid of. From tomorrow, I’ll follow the regular pattern.
Benefits of the Minimalism Game
By the end of the month, if you play this well, you will have reduced 465 items that:
- Don’t spark joy and/or
- Don’t serve a purpose in your life
Engaging in this game not only declutters your space but also clears your mind, making room for more meaningful experiences and items.
Let’s embark on this minimalism journey together. Share your progress, struggles, and victories. Remember, it’s not just about getting rid of things, but about finding joy in simplicity and reclaiming your space and time.
Ready? Set. Go!
